Editor's Note: Congratulations to Kristin, Matt, and Paul for winning this week's contest!
It's been feeling a lot like summer in many places lately, but summer has officially begun! One "activity" typical for this time of year is trying to cool off in blistering heat. Cranking up the AC is an easy way to do it, but there are many different (and very creative!) alternatives.
What is your favorite way to cool down? How do you keep it budget-friendly?
Tell us how about your favorite way to cool down and we'll enter you in a drawing to win a $20 Amazon Gift Card!
We're doing three giveaways — here's how you can win!
If you're inspired to write a whole blog post OR you have a photo on flickr to share, please link to it in the comments or tweet it.
Good Luck!

My Cool down tip-Get a spray bottle - fill it with ice cold water and mist!
The pool, AC, and ice cream!
A cold shower is my favorite way to cool down. Start with the water tepid and progressively make it colder until I'm cool all over.
I like swimming in our pool
A bottle to mist myself with works great!
Sometimes, I throw my t-shirt into the freezer. If I want the chill to last a little longer, I'll even wet my t-shirt a little bit (warning: must be okay with getting a little wet though)
Catching an air-conditioned matinee at the movie theater and watching a summer blockbuster!
A nice shady spot by the lake!
staying inside and using the AC!
I try to spend more time near water (either at the beach or pool). At night, I use window fans to pull the cool air from outside to cool down the house. More natural and cost effective than using the AC!
Anything with water like a Slip N Slide. Plus drinking lots of H2O staying hydrated and taking breaks inside
We chose to not air condition. In the heat of the day, little activity, iced drinks and the windows wide open so the breeze can come in (enhanced by a fan of course). LOVE summer and enjoy the lazy afternoons after getting up early to tend to the garden in the cool of the day.
In a dry climate, wet a handkerchief and drape it around your neck. The evaporation cools you down.
In a humid climate, drink a lot of cold water and tea, move slowly and wear loose clothing.
Popsicles and a cold compress have helped me a little....I'm 7 months pregnant and have been baking lately.
I don't have any creative ideas. I just like to move as little as possible inside an air conditioned room, drinking a cold beverage.
Here's what I do for my 4-year-old's new favorite cool-off activity: fill a casserole dish about halfway with water, then set a small plastic bowl in it, weighing it down so the bowl doesn't float. Freeze, then remove the plastic bowl. I set this dish on our porch, pour some water in the empty spot made by the bowl, then she has an ice scene to play with. She skates little plastic figures on the ice and has them play in the cool "lake." The scene changes as it melts, and little toes usually find their way in too. :)
Find a nice cool shady spot by the lake.
With a tall glass of sweet ice tea or some ice cream
I'm in the pool to stay cool. Hey! I'm a poet and don't even know it :)
I usually blast the AC!
Stay in the AC, drink cool non- alcoholic beverages, wear light flowing clothing and put a wet cloth around your neck. Been over 100 degrees here so we have practiced these methods frequently.
I love to see all the latest blockbusters and then head home for a popsicle!
Our favorite way to cool down is tubing at the lake as a family!
Opening the house up at night and then shutting everything in the morning before it gets hot!
I love eating ice cream to stay cool - my husband laughs that every time I am done eating I complain I am cold!
I keep the blinds and shades closed on whatever part of the house the sun is shining. That alone keeps the house a good 10+ degrees cooler. We have had people think our A/C was on just by doing this.
Cold water, stripping to my birthday suit, and turning on the fan.
My friends and I have pool days at each other's apartment pool's - we bring drinks and enjoy the day!
A cool shower always does the trick!
Take a quick dip then get under an umbrella by the ocean..
After I run in the summer, I'll either jump in the pool (clothes and all), or I'll have a wet washcloth on ice waiting for me (to drape around my neck)...
I keep my fridge stocked with homemade iced tea and I have a glass whenever I feel like I need to cool down.
A big pitcher of iced tea and a trip to the lake!
My favorite way to cool down is to spritz water from a fan mister then use the battery powered fan to evaporate the water from my face.
Ice cream and air conditioning!
Cut up and freeze fruit for a cooling snack!
Avoid using the oven/stove by preparing salads with tons of raw veggies for meals...cooling and healthy while keeping the house from getting too warm.
Take a shower and lay under the ceiling fan.
Swimming, eating lots of ice cream, and on super hot nights, sticking my pillow cases in the freezer!
I love to sit on my shaded porch and have a cold drink! Sometimes I take a fan out there and I can relax and cool down at the same time.
I like to go to the local library and hang out - they have computers, magazines, papers besides great books.
First way is to stay in our air-conditioned house, second, get out on the nearby lake in my kayak! :)
My favorite way to cool down is to have dinner on the front lawn or porch at sunset. The sunset is always beautiful and the cool breeze is awesome. Being outside for a while helps to cut down the costs of burning air condition.
Drinking some cold water, sitting under a ceiling fan, and/or taking a lap around an air-conditioned mall are all great ways to beat the heat in Atlanta!!
Drinking lots of cold or ice water. Also, I take a reusable water bottle full of ice water along if you must spend some time outside or in the car.
A cool shower and then ICE CREAM!!!!
ICE CREAM!!!!
I sleep with an ice pack!
My favorite way to cool down is to go get ice cream with my grandkids.
my family goes to the library to cool down
Going to the movies.
My craft/art studio is in the basement where it is always nice and cool. :)
My tip: Rub an ice cube on your pulse points. It seems to give a cooling effect very quickly!
I spend the hottest part of the day in my basement where it stays nice and cool.
I cool down by taking a quick cold shower!
I stay cool by spending time at the pool.
I like to drink a cold glass of lemonade or iced tea to beat the heat.
Drink lots and lots of water, also jump into lots and lots of water :) Love being by the pool to cool down on a hot day.
Sit under the shade trees in a park as you drink a cold bottle of water.
I like to use the AC.
Drink lots of icy cold water
