I am a Midwestern writer and proofreader. At Heartland Living on a Budget, I write about the things my grandparents did instinctively. Once Heartland homesteaders and Great Depression survivors, they knew how to budget and save money. Long before reduce/recycle/reuse was an advertising spin phrase, they exemplified this behavior. At this blog, I recapture the spirit of my grandmother, who preserved food, made soap, knitted, sewed, baked and cooked. In addition, I long to incorporate the values of my grandfather, who had a strong work ethic. He also hunted, gardened, butchered meat, built structures, painted and did many do-it-yourself projects. It is my journey to live out their legacy of frugality, simplicity and green living.
